Residency Program
The Soin Family Medicine Residency program established a Rural Medicine Pathway in 2021. Based in nearby Jamestown, Ohio, this pathway is for residents who are interested in providing health care to the underserved and marginalized patient population in rural settings. We have grown to our full complement of six residents with the 2023 match. Our residents are trained to assess the needs of their community, take a leadership role in developing medical outreach, and provide best practice medical care within a community clinic framework. Focus will be on issues specific to rural patient population - access to preventative and subspecialty care, access to procedural care (specifically gynecologic procedures), access to maternity care, unmet psychiatric and addiction treatment resources, & general health literacy.
Residents in our Rural Pathway see patients in the newly remodeled Jamestown Health Center, a qualified rural health clinic, alongside physicians who have been in the community for a combined total of over 75 years. Required core rotations are located at Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center and in community offices in the Beavercreek, Xenia, and surrounding areas. Pediatric Emergency medicine rotations take place at Dayton Children's Hospital. All residents in Soin Medical Education participate together in didactics on Friday afternoons at the Soin Family Practice Center.
Some of the distinctive experiences we offer our Rural Pathway residents include:
