Kettering Main Campus (KMC) is a faith-based, non-profit hospital located in Kettering, Ohio. Founded in 1964, it is the focus hospital in the Kettering Health Network with 508 beds, and is directly affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Thomson Reuters has rated Kettering Health Network as one of the top 10 hospital networks for clinical excellence in the United States.

Eugene Kettering, son of famous inventor Charles F. Kettering, and his wife Virginia were native citizens of Dayton. They moved to Hinsdale, Illinois near Chicago in the 1940s. During the polio epidemic in the 1950s, they were inspired by the care given at Hinsdale Hospital, which would play a vital role in the foundation of Kettering Main Campus. Following the death of his father in 1958, Eugene and his family moved from Illinois back to Dayton to help manage family affairs. Health care was a primary focus of Charles Kettering so Eugene and Virginia led efforts to open a local area hospital in his honor. Ground was broken on July 7, 1961. With the generous funding by Eugene W. and Virginia W. Kettering, in 1964, Charles F. Kettering Memorial Hospital opened under the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and has become a preeminent health science center in the region. The Kettering philosophy of excellence fosters the combined application of state-of-the-art technology with compassionate, professional care.

In October 2010 Kettering Main Campus opened the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Heart Hospital, a new wing to the hospital that included a renovated lobby and new main entrance with an outpatient pharmacy, expanded gift shop and bakery.

Our residency program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program is grounded in a solid commitment to excellence in education, patient care, continuing education, and community involvement. Delivering care to people of all walks of life in the Dayton and surrounding areas, Kettering Main Campus provides state-of-the art experienced care with cutting edge technology and with a personal touch. KMC health care divisions serve more than 200,000 patients each year. Kettering Main Campus is part of the worldwide consortium of health care facilities operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The close association with Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine here in Dayton and Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Southern California is another important strength of the program. Wright State University School of Medicine graduates approximately 100 students while Loma Linda University School of Medicine graduates approximately 170 students each year. The residents in our program participate in the students' education during their third and fourth year.

The residents and teaching faculty have a very close working relationship, one that fosters increasing resident responsibility. This commitment is evident in the formulation and function of the Internal Medicine residency program. Kettering Main Campus is developing innovative outpatient opportunities for the future needs of medicine.

Kettering Main Campus is a community hospital with a university dimension. There are other WSU residency programs at KMC as well, including Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, and General Surgery. All programs are affiliated or integrated with Wright State University School of Medicine and all are part of the Dayton Area Graduate Medical Education Consortium (DAGMEC). Five private and two government hospitals in the Dayton area provide us with a wide variety of opportunities for additional education throughout the city.

The institution's superior diagnostic facilities are another strength of the clinical programs. Our excellent clinical laboratory - with 24-hour coverage for emergency studies - provides highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art testing. The Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Departments provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services of the highest caliber, including diagnostic radiology, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology.

There are numerous supporting ancillary services. These include a fully computerized laboratory; pharmacy services, including pharmacokinetics, IV placement, and TPN teams; and computerized medical records dictation/transcription service. KMC has consistently received high marks from the accrediting body, HFAP; in fact, at the last survey done, KMC received 100% (top 2% of all hospitals in the nation.)
